SMG Chest Rigs? Recommendations. In the market for an SMG chest rig and the only ones I’m really able to find are the Dank Robber/DR-9, DRIP-9, and LV-9 from Unobtainium Gear. Does anyone else have more recommendations before I go fourth and get the DRIP-9?.

I put the new insert on the watch and the bezel turned but would pop off. If a bezel assembly turns very hard, the excess friction could be from the flat spring. One way too check this is to remove the bezel assembly and flat spring - then reinstall the bezel assembly without the flat spring. If the bezel turns much better, the flat spring is causing too much tension and binding. I have purchased a new flat tension spring washer on ebay and a new click spring. TC told me there was no tension spring on my sub as the gen does not have one. I did install the tension spring regardless and the wobble is now fixed. I'm very pleased with the result.

It was returned late last month and now it works fine except for one thing -- the rotating bezel is very hard to turn and it seemed to be harder in some orientations than others. So today I brought it back for a fix in that area, and they replaced the spring.

The only problem is the new ball won't stay in of it's own accord so a dab of silicone grease kept it in place while the bezel was fitted. First try the new spring held the ball too proud and locked the bezel so it wouldn't turn, I had to snip 2 coils off the spring and go again. Check to verify that the bezel tension ring (washer) is not binding on the retaining ring. The retaining ring is another weak point in the CF bezel assembly, it is thin and flimsy and may not mate well with the gen washer.

There is a flat shaped piece of metal (the tension spring) that sits under the bezel and holds the bezel/insert in place until the user places pressure down on the bezel to rotate. Unlike later models, which incorporate a clicking mechanism, the rotation is smooth. This spring is designed to fit various GMT-Master II models, including 16700, 16710, 16713, 16718, and 16760. The early shorter spring used in the 16710 model was replaced by the 317-16628, but the 317-16760 should work just fine for your purpose.

After installation, the trick to preserving 'tightness' is to always use a spacer/tension washer and push down on the rotating bezel when turning it. Pushing down greatly reduces friction and wear where the rotating bezel is snapped onto the crystal retaining bezel.
